What is a Lucky 15 Bet?
A Lucky 15 is a full-cover multiple bet in which you choose one selection in each of four different events. This type of bet includes all possible combinations of 4 horses, comprising of 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles, and 1 four-fold, adding up to 15 total bets. You can place a Lucky 15 on a variety of sports, such as horse racing, football, tennis, cricket, and mix and match sports.
How Many Winners are Needed for a Return on a Lucky 15?
Only one winner is required to receive a return on a Lucky 15. This is because a single bet is placed on each horse. The more winners you have, the higher your returns will be as they will be included in more individual bets that make up the Lucky 15.
Cost of a Lucky 15 Bet
The cost of a Lucky 15 bet is 15 times the unit stake. For example, a £1 win Lucky 15 costs £1 x 15 = £15. If betting each way, the stake is doubled. For example, a £1 Each Way Lucky 15 costs £1 x 15 for win and £1 x 15 for place, equalling £30.
Placing a Lucky 15 Bet
You can place a Lucky 15 bet online by selecting your four selections and choosing Lucky 15 under the multiple bets options. Most high street bookmakers also have a dedicated slip for Lucky 15 bets. Simply fill in the unit stake, total stake, and select your four selections. Bets can be settled at starting price (SP) or best odds guaranteed (BOG) if available.
Lucky 15 vs Yankee Bet
The choice between a Lucky 15 and Yankee bet is a matter of personal preference. The Lucky 15 is considered preferable to a Yankee by some as even one winning selection means at least a portion of your stake is returned. Also, the full-cover element of the Lucky 15 bet means you have the chance to win big with multiple winners.
Lucky 15 Bonuses
Some bookmakers offer bonuses on Lucky 15 bets, such as a consolation bonus for one winning selection or a winners bonus for all four winning selections. Check the latest offer and terms from the bookmaker before placing your bet.
How are the Returns for a Lucky 15 Bet calculated?
A Lucky 15 bet is calculated based on the number of winning selections. The more winners, the more bets and winnings are returned. Here’s a breakdown of the winnings for each outcome in a race:
- 4 winners: 4 winning singles, 6 winning doubles, 4 winning trebles, and 1 winning four-fold
- 3 winners: 3 winning singles, 3 winning doubles, and 1 winning treble
- 2 winners: 2 winning singles and 1 winning double
- 1 winner: 1 winning single
To calculate the returns, you add 2 to each winning selection’s odds, then multiply them together and by the stake, and subtract the unit stake. You can use a calculator or work it out yourself with our examples:
Example 1: £1 Lucky 15 bet on horses with 3/1 odds (costs £15) and all horses win. The four horses win, so the odds become 5 (3/1 + 2). The calculation is 5 x 5 x 5 x 5 = 625, multiplied by the unit stake (1) = 625, minus the unit stake = 624. The return is £624, making a profit of £609 after subtracting the total stake of £15. Some bookmakers may offer a 10% to 20% bonus on this win.
If you have 1, 2, or 3 winners, simply exclude the losers from the calculation.
For 1 winner at 3/1 odds, the calculation becomes 5 (3/1 + 2) x 1 (unit stake) = 5, minus the unit stake = 4. The return is £4, making a loss of £11 after subtracting the total stake of £15. Some bookmakers may offer double or triple the odds to reduce the loss.
For 2 winners both at 3/1 odds, the calculation becomes 5 (3/1 + 2) x 5 (3/1 + 2) x 1 (unit stake) = 25, minus the unit stake = 24. The return is £24, making a profit of £9 after subtracting the total stake of £15.
For 3 winners all at 3/1 odds, the calculation becomes 5 (3/1 + 2) x 5 (3/1 + 2) x 5 (3/1 + 2) x 1 (unit stake) = 125, minus the unit stake = 124. The return is £124, making a profit of £109 after subtracting the total stake of £15.
