Serious Punters Always Establish a Daily Routine

Look for magic in the daily routine.” – Lou Barlow

One thing that differentiates a mug punter from someone who is serious about their horse racing is the amount of time spent making their choices.

A mug punter will at best take just a few minutes to decide what they are going to bet on in a race, often the selection process is a lot quicker.

On the other hand, a serious player takes time to study the race and its variables before deciding whether to invest hard earned cash upon the race.

The best way to make the leap from mug punter to serious player is to turn your selection process into a daily routine.

If you do not have a daily routine for studying the daily race cards, and ratings then making informed selections can become difficult.

Our minds like the security of routine. If you are fortunate enough to have a couple of hours of spare time at the beginning or the end of the day, this will help you tremendously.

Otherwise, if you have unpredictable blocks of time to dedicate towards analysing the races, then your mind might not settle into the right state of mind, making informed decisions difficult.

In short, it helps to get into an established routine at the same time each day; this is the ideal scenario.

Usually, I have looked at the races for tomorrow just after 3pm when the One Stop Racing race cards and ratings have been published for the next day’s racing. At this juncture a long list of races to look at is established.

The main time though for devoting my time and attention to studying the individual races is from 6pm onwards each day, as this after bookmakers have priced up the betting market. How I go about my study will be covered in future articles.

You may find a different time is better for you, maybe a couple of hours on a morning after breakfast.

If you take your betting seriously, find a time that works for you when there are absolutely no distractions.

Tips for establishing a routine

  1. Decide what needs to be in your routine.
  2. Layout a plan.
  3. Be consistent with time.
  4. Be prepared (have all the tools to hand).
  5. Make it fun!
  6. Track your progress.
  7. Reward yourself when the results start going your way.

When is the best time for you to introduce your routine for researching your bets?

Do you have a couple of hours free on an evening when the rest of the family are watching soaps?

Or are you a morning person, can you block out some time on a morning right after your scrambled egg on toast?

Whenever it is you choose, stick to it, it will soon become second nature and you will find yourself reaping the dividends of the hard work.

You may have a warm feeling after reading this and plan starting your routine tomorrow; just bear in mind tomorrow never comes and you can get a warm feeling from having a bath.

The thing to remember, to always remember, is that;

What you do! or do not do! today, is what matters most.
