Oisin Murphy Missed Kempton Due to Health Issue, Set to Ride at Lingfield

Top jockey Oisin Murphy, who is heavily favoured to clinch his fourth jockeys’ championship, was notably absent from Kempton on Monday, where he was scheduled to provide a breath sample. Murphy, who was slated for five rides at the all-weather fixture, was replaced, with the stewards’ report citing ‘unwell’ as the reason. The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has taken up the matter for further investigation.

An official report stated: “An enquiry was held to consider why Oisin Murphy, who was required to provide a breath sample, had failed to arrive. The sampling officer, the clerk of the scales, and Murphy were interviewed, and the matter was forwarded to the head office of the British Horseracing Authority for further consideration.”

Murphy took to social media platform X to clarify his absence, attributing it to haemorrhoids. He assured fans that he would be back in the saddle at Lingfield on Tuesday.

In his post, Murphy explained: “I’ve noticed blood in my breeches at the races recently and have needed to change numerous times. This morning I noticed more blood than I’d seen before. I’ve got haemorrhoids. I’m fine and I’ll be back riding tomorrow.”
